ChatGPT GPT-6 · 4 prompts

ChatGPT now builds calculators, charts and maps right in the chat

With GPT-6, ChatGPT can answer with things you click: a calculator, a chart, a form, a map. You ask in plain words and it builds the tool in the conversation. Change a number and the answer updates. Here are my prompts, and the one check to make before you trust the numbers.

The prompts

Ask for a tool and ChatGPT builds it

In the video I said to comment INTERFACE. This is that guide. OpenAI calls the feature Intelligent UI. It came with GPT-6 on October 7, 2026, on every plan, including the free one.

  1. Open a regular chat. Use ChatGPT on the web or the latest phone app, and update the app if you haven't. Intelligent UI works in Chat. It doesn't work in the Work tab or in Voice, and older desktop apps don't show it yet.
  2. Ask for the tool in plain words. Say what it's for and give it your numbers. You don't need a special prompt. ChatGPT decides when a calculator, chart or form is more useful than text.
  3. Click and change it. Move the tip, the budget or the date, and the result updates in the chat.
  4. Check the math before you decide anything. A calculator shows you the result. It doesn't always show the formula behind it. Paste the check prompt below and work one number out yourself.
Prompt 1: split a dinner bill
Build me a calculator to split a $240 dinner bill four ways with a 20% tip.
Prompt 2: plan a road trip
Map a road trip from San Francisco to LA with three stops where it's scenic.
Prompt 3: a monthly budget
Build me a monthly budget tool. My take-home pay is [amount] a month. My fixed bills are [rent, insurance, phone, and so on, with amounts]. Add categories for groceries, eating out, transport and savings that I can adjust. Show a chart of where the money goes and how much is left at the end of the month.
Prompt 4: a savings goal
Build me a savings calculator. I want to save [amount] for [goal] by [month and year]. I have [amount] saved now. Show how much I need to put away each month. Let me change the target date and the monthly amount and see how the other one moves.

One catch: check the numbers

The calculator shows a result, and it doesn't always show how it got there. Before you make a decision with it, paste the prompt below, then check one number on your phone's calculator. The dinner bill is an easy test: $240 plus a 20% tip is $288, so each person pays $72.

Copy this prompt: show me the math
Show me the formula behind every number in that tool. Then work one example step by step with my numbers, so I can check it on a calculator. Tell me any assumption you made, like whether the tip is on the total before or after tax.

Want fewer visuals? In the video I said to turn off Layout and visuals. The exact setting, on the web: Settings, then Personalization, then Layout and visuals, and choose Simple. OpenAI says this cuts back on visuals and interactive pieces, and a few may still show up. You can also ask in a chat for a plain text answer.

Questions people ask

Quick answers

Can ChatGPT make an interactive calculator?

Yes. With GPT-6, ChatGPT can build a calculator inside the chat that you can click and change. Ask in plain words with your numbers, like "Build me a calculator to split a $240 dinner bill four ways with a 20% tip." Change the tip and the total updates. OpenAI calls this Intelligent UI.

What is Intelligent UI in ChatGPT?

It's OpenAI's name for answers that include things you can use, like buttons, calculators, editable charts, forms and maps. It launched with GPT-6 on October 7, 2026 for paid plans and October 8 for Free and Go. ChatGPT decides when a visual is more useful than text, so you don't need a special prompt.

How do I turn off the charts and visuals in ChatGPT?

On the web, go to Settings, then Personalization, then Layout and visuals, and choose Simple. OpenAI says this reduces visuals and interactive elements, but some may still appear. You can also ask for a plain text answer in the chat.

Why don't I see interactive answers in ChatGPT?

Check where you're asking. Intelligent UI works in regular Chat. It doesn't work in the Work tab or in Voice, and older macOS and Windows desktop apps don't show it yet. Update the app or use ChatGPT on the web. The rollout is gradual, so it may reach some accounts later.

Are ChatGPT calculators accurate?

Check before you rely on one. The calculator shows a result and doesn't always show its formula. Ask ChatGPT to show the formula behind every number and work one example step by step, then check that number yourself. For a $240 bill with a 20% tip split four ways, each person pays $72.

Use these in a regular ChatGPT chat. Fill in the [brackets] with your real numbers. Each prompt asks ChatGPT to show its formula, so you can see how the result was worked out.

Copy this prompt: pricing calculator
Build me a pricing calculator for my [product or service]. Inputs I can change: materials cost per unit, hours of work per unit, my hourly rate, overhead per unit, and the profit margin I want as a percent of the price. Output: the price to charge and my profit per unit.

Calculate margin as a percent of the price: price = total cost ÷ (1 − margin). Show the formula and the total cost under the result. Then show what the price would be with a markup of the same percent, so I can see the difference.
Copy this prompt: quote estimator
Build me a quote estimator for my [type of business]. Here are my line items, each with a unit and a price per unit: [item, unit, price; item, unit, price; and so on]. Let me pick items and enter a quantity for each. Add sales tax at [rate]% on [everything / these items only: list them], a deposit line at [percent]% of the total, and a grand total. Show the math for every line so I can paste it into a quote.
Copy this prompt: break-even chart
Build me a break-even chart for my business. Fixed costs per month: [amount]. Price per sale: [amount]. Cost per sale for materials, fees and shipping: [amount]. Chart revenue and total costs from 0 to [number] sales a month, mark where the lines cross, and let me change the price and costs to watch the break-even point move. Use break-even sales = fixed costs ÷ (price − cost per sale), and show it under the chart.

Check the math in a minute

Before you use a new tool, give it numbers you can work out yourself. Break-even: fixed costs of $3,000, price $50, cost per sale $20, so you need 100 sales. Pricing: a total cost of $60 at a 40% margin is a price of $100. A 40% markup on $60 is only $84, which is why the prompt asks for margin. If the tool gives a different answer, ask it to show its formula and fix it.
